We also have joined other bike tour companies in this part of the world and recommend Happy Bike Tour above the others for value, easy pace, quality (of education provided,... read more condition of bike, quite village roads, genuine care and attention to your comfort and sharing of local knowledge of Balinese culture, customs and foods).
This tour allows for you to have your questions answered around cultural traditions and family/village customs.
We were fortunate to only have the 2 of us and our guide, so a very intimate experience however I’m sure if the group was larger the effort from the staff to include everyone would be equalled!
June 9, 2023Cycling the Island of the Gods - What a really great day! I will Putu and the boss Made could not have made this a better experience. I can highly recommend this tour for all visitors to... read more Bali. What impresses most was the cultural overlay and information that we received about village life and the schools in rural Bali. The roads were well paved and the bikes in excellent condition and well, the lunch was possibly the best meal we have eaten in Bali. Overall, this is an unmissable trip, especially if you want to delve into the heart of this beautiful island of the gods.

Happy Bike is a small local company providing a very nice day out on the bicycle touring the more quiet rural areas north east of Ubud. Putu, our guide, was... read more a great teacher about Balinese culture and customs.
The trip started at one of the coffee plantations, which actually was nice and friendly. No pressure to buy something, just a good explanation about the collaboration between the different land owners and how they grow their coffee and herbs and make a living for their families.
Then the cycling. Indeed mainly downhill. Many stops with interesting stories and explanations about Bali way of living, religions, beliefs. Finishing with a fantastic lunch at the house of Made.
Note that the quality of the bicycles was good. And size was ok, even for a tall Dutch guy.
There are quite some different companies offering similar tours. Happy Bike stands out for their personal approach and intent to let you leave with a much better appreciation and understanding of the Balinese culture and customs.
March 5, 2023Must do for anyone that can ride a bike! - I have never done a bike tour before and have been to Bali many times...it was such a good day ..it was great to get out and about and see... read more the real locals and their everyday life and l also learnt alot about the wildlife and their role in farming rice!
February 12, 2023Better-than-average cycling tour - There are many cycling tours in Bali, all running similar itineraries (visit coffee tasting, drive up to Kintamani, coast downhill to Ubud, finish with a lunch) for similar prices. ... read more My family and I did one of these tours 3 years ago with a different company--which was also a good day out--and this was our consensus of Happy Bike's tour in comparison:
Better-than-expected:
* The visit to the working family compound (and farm). In our two visits to Bali, this experience best gave us an insight into the traditional (and ongoing) way of life for many Balinese people.
* Made's assistant directing traffic. This meant going on ahead of our group to get to potentially problematic spots before we arrived, and then preventing us going the wrong way, or else hold up traffic to allow us to safely negotiate intersections. (I recall fretting at high-traffic intersections during our last cycling tour with the other provider!)
* Visiting Made's family's compound: what a little slice of communal-living heaven!
* Enjoying the lunch made by Made's wife: easily equivalent to a meal at a good-quality warong.
* Thoughtful two-way discussion comparing Balinese and Western "ways of being", Made clearly loves sharing his culture, but is also curious about the culture of others.
[[* I am sure that the school visit would have been excellent too, but unfortunately school was closed for a religious festival on the day of our tour.]]
Slight preference for previous tour:
* Happy Bike's website advertises a breakfast as being included in the price, but no breakfast was provided. Honestly, it was no great loss for us: we were already pretty bloated after a huge dinner the night before, the breakfast provided at Kintamani on our cycling tour 3 years ago was pretty basic, and Happy Bike's lunch--when we actually _were_ hungry!--more than made up for it. Still, if you are planning on getting a breakfast, it might be worthwhile clarifying this when making your booking.
* Though the temple visits were neither here nor there with our last tour--we were pretty "templed out" by that point of our holiday, we did appreciate visiting somewhat-touristy-but-beautiful-Penglipuran, which was NOT part of the Happy Bike itinerary.
OVERALL
Happy Bike's tour was _very_ good, and we preferred it to the other provider's tour three years ago. The "better-than-expected" points above made this tour stand out, and I am confident it well live on in our memories.

Cultural experience on a bike tour - When staying Ubud this tour is a must do. The ride is easy, so you don't need to be super fit. We really enjoyed the tour because of the knowledge... read more and enthusiasm that Mr Wira brought and he showed us the traditional side of life for the Balinese. We learnt a lot about Balinese life from visiting temples, meeting school children, visiting a Balinese family and learning about their ancestral home and even rites and rituals performed when someone dies. Mr Wira and his team took care of everything, from hotel pick up, cool drinks and fruits down to the refreshing ice towel at the end of the ride. And Mr Wira's wife made the best food for lunch we have tasted in Ubud.
January 17, 2023Great way to experience real Ubud - Fantastic to see some quiet farms, a traditional house tour, coffee tasting, all in picturesque bliss. Made was a great tour guide and even opened his home for us to... read more have lunch. Track is gentle and downhill.

My partner and I had an incredible experience on this bike tour!

After the bike ride was finished, we travelled with Putu and Made to their house where we were treated to a delicious meal.
We can't recommend this tour enough- we learned and saw so much of Bali life, and we were treated kindly and generously throughout.

Going through small villages and rice fields outside Ubud you make interesting stops, whilst provided with back ground info: coffee (and tea) tasting, short elementary school visit, family house visit.

Fun, cosy & educational. A must do.
September 6, 2022This was our 2nd bike tour that we've done with Made.
Amazing time with Puta and Puta. They really made the experience one to remember.
Their knowledge that they passed... read more onto us was most informing and we learnt a lot about the Balinese culture and life generally.
Hospitality was beyond what one could have imagined and to top it all the lunch that Made's wife gave us was traditional Balinese food which was delicious.
This bike tour is very easy as there are only 2 small hills which are short and easy to walk.
I would recommend this tour to everyone and when we're back in Ubud we will do it again.
Once again thanks to Made and his crew for making our day.
June 7, 2022Made and Putu made our day amazing from start to finish. The bike ride was very manageable, and Putu looked after us very well. Lunch made by Mades wife Ketut... read more at his compound was incredible. One of the best meals we've had in Bali. Will hopefully do again in September.

The Happy Bike Bali Cycling Tour met and exceeded our expectations! The ride was enjoyable, mostly downhill, through many villages with plenty to see. We also enjoyed learning about Balinese... read more culture and traditions throughout the tour. The lunch cooked by the owners wife was delicious! We would highly recommend this tour and experience!
February 29, 2020We decided on Happy Bike Tours post reading reviews on TripAdvisor and boy was it the right choice. We were picked up on time from our hotel. First stop was... read more a coffee plantation where we were given a brief on the various kinds of coffee. We also got to sample some 15 odd varieties of tea and coffee and were given a banana pancake breakfast. Then we had a short drive to a place where we could try out various bikes to find the one we were most comfortable with. Deva and Putu helped everyone check their bikes, gears, brakes and tyres and gave a small briefing on the call signs. Then we started our 17 kms journey through beautiful countryside encountering only 3 uphill slopes. We made multiple pitstops at a school, a traditional Balinese house, rice fields, vantage points to take in the views and never felt tired even though it was a sunny day. Our guides Deva and Putu were excellent in making sure we were safe on the roads.
Once the bike ride ended we were given cold water towels to refresh ourselves and then whisked off in the car to Mr. Made's house where we had the best meal in Bali, cooked by his wife. There were enough vegetarian options also. Mr. Made was an excellent host making sure he mingled with everyone and making them feel at home.
If we had a free day in Bali we would have gone for this tour again. Highly recommended.
February 26, 2020I would recommend booking this tour 100 times over. It is so much more than a bike tour, rather a cultural experience. Don’t be dismayed when the person who picks... read more you up doesn’t speak to you, they are the driver who are picking you up to take you to the tour, not the actual tour guide (we were a bit worried about that).
When we finally met Made and his son I knew we were going to have a fantastic day! We were first driven to a Coffee plantation where Made shared his vast knowledge for farming in Ubud and the coffee making process which was very interesting to see . We were treated to free coffee and tea tastings (which are delicious) and our banana pancake and banana that Made’s wife had already cooked, so yum.
We then were driven to the start of the bike ride , where we received bottled water and began our ride. We stopped very often so that Made should share his expansive knowledge of the land and Bali traditions which was so very interesting. My favourite part was when we stopped in the middle of a rice field and saw a local family harvesting their rice fields . They let us try and do it too and Made didn’t know them from a bar of soap. Moments like these show you the real Bali culture away from Seminyak and Legian which is what I really enjoyed.
When we were finished, we were treated to a delicious Balinese meal by Made’s wife, it was the best meal I have had my whole trip! The bike ride itself was incredibly gentle as the website suggests so there’s no need to doubt your ability.
Overall we had the most amazing day and I would do this trip again! Made and his son have incredible English and I will reccomend this tour to everyone.

Highly recommend this bike ride. great value And so much more than a bike ride. Doing this at the beginning of any trip to bali, really puts... read more you in the right frame of mind. First timers quickly gain so much knowledge about bali. Tour, ride, learning about bali culture, coffee plantation, laughs, lunch, safe pickup drop off. Third time taking this tour and I wasn’t disappointed. My friend had not ridden a bike in a while and Putu and Gusti really looked after us. Lollipops in our backpacks, we visited a school on our way to hand them out. The ride even in some rain (which was welcomed and cooled things down) Is magic. the countryside and villages Are amazing, good to get out of the hustle and bustle for a while. I can wholeheartedly Say that lunch back at Mades compound is still a highlight. ONE OF THE BEST MEALS for my entire trip this time. AGAIN.
February 15, 2020We had taken this bike trip last year during Easter holidays and again just last Sunday. First time we were blown away by the gorgeous views of the rice paddies,... read more by people we met on the way, but especially by Made and his family and FOOD!!! We mentioned we’re don’t eat animal product, so Made and his wife made sure we had plenty of delicious tempe and tofu to indulge in, plain rice, incredibly tasty fried noodles and a peanut sauce that is to die for!
The second time around we were caught in a very heavy rain. Our 7 year old did an awesome job staying on bike throughout the whole trip, although he was offered to ride with Made in the car. I was surprised how good the bikes behaved in the rain, was expecting it to be slippery and uncomfortable, but the brakes did a great job on steep downhill roads, so we did not have to worry about our safety. It was a shame to miss a few stops, especially the rice paddies, but hey, telling your friends how you weathered the heavy rain 18 km on bikes is priceless! The adrenaline rush added a fun element to the experience.
Made’s first son, Putu, was so good at leading the tour! He’s such a nice young man with impeccable manners and great knowledge of his culture. Back at Made’s house at the end of the tour you can see how much love and respect is cultivated in their family. Oh, and did I mention the food?! I did? I’ll do it again! It was the best Indonesian food we had in Bali! Or, like, ever. They also had two cute puppies that our son loved playing with.
We wish your family and your business to grow and prosper, Made! Thank you for being so kind and sweet. We will definitely be back! Until next time!

January 26, 2020We were going to Bali this January and, our nephew recommended the Happy Bikes Ubud bike tour. Many of the reviews have said it all.The coffee stop provided the caffeine... read more boost that went a long way to providing some added energy for our ride.It was an easy ride and the educational commentary along the way was valuable. The guides provided all the support and hydration required to make this a safe and comfortable ride. Once completed, Mades wife (God bless her) prepared a feast which as someone else mentioned one of the best if not the best meal we had in Bali.Higly recommend the tour for all ages and we will definitely go on the ride again when we return later this year. Terima Kasih ♀️❤️

The owner, Made, picked us up at our resort and took us first to a coffee plantation were we could taste 8 different kinds of coffee and 5 different kinds of teas. After that we went to the starting point of the bike trip. From there he took us during a 2,5 hours (mostly down hill) course through different places and the most beautiful sites in the surroundings of Ubud. We went through the rice fields and he explained a lot about the farmers life & how Indonesian people live in their community. The bikes we had were good and all gears worked properly. The road was really easy so you don’t get tired and is good doable for everybody. After the trip we were offered a lunch at Made’s house (also included in the price) which was one of the best meals we had in Bali!! So I can highly recommend everybody to book this trip at Hapoy Bike!!
